We love the ninja locally, now she is also getting international recognition! We're so excited and proud!
You loved her as BoniΒ on Saints and Sinners and she is getting international love as Winnie on Is'thunzi. The actress has been nominated for an International Emmy Award for herΒ role on popular Mzansi Magic teen drama series, IsβThunzi. Mbedu plays Winnie, a brave young girl who moves from Johannesburg to Phelβumoya and helps her newly found friends tackle the backhanded claps that life throws at them.
Earlier this year, MbeduΒ was nominated for a DStv Mzansi Viewers' Choice Award (#DStvMVCAs) in the best actress category.Β
However, Mbedu is not new to the rewards of hard work - she studied dramatic arts at Wits and earned a number of awards such as theΒ E J A Loerincz Scholarship (2011), Golden Key International Honours Society Membership (2012), University Council Merit Scholarship (2012) and New York University Summer Programme Scholarship also in 2012.
South Africaβs golden girl changed her Instagram bio, after hearing news that sheβs been nominated for a 2017 International Emmy Award. SheΒ says she screamed, danced and jumped when she heard about the nomination.Β She went on to post a lengthy gratitude message on her Instagram thanking everyone who played a part in helping her reach this milestome in her acting career.Β
We are very proud of the amazing acknowledgement of SA talent at the Emmyβs. Thuso Mbedu is flying the South African flag high with the ongoing recognition at home and internationally.
