When the going gets tough, the tough get going!

With barely a moment to compose themselves after some shock eliminations post the duet battles, the surviving Theatre Week contestants had to dust themselves off and prepare for solos! Things started off though on a positive note as Unathi finally answered the question we’d be wondering all week: who were the two singers she would be saving?

The lucky contestants were Victor and Sandile who received a much needed life line and second shot at fame. The two gentlemen then joined their fellow contestants in an early morning treasure hunt for the songs they’d be performing. After a little digging the contestants came up with songs they were mostly happy with although some track selections drew some blank faces as they struggled to recall if they knew the song or not.

Once songs had been assigned it was off to rehearsals where the sailing was anything but smooth. Lyrics proved to be the biggest challenge for most as they simply failed to stick and with the minutes steadily ticking by time was running out for those who couldn’t turn on their memory switch.

Just as the contestants were getting ready to finally hit the stage a final curve ball was thrown their way. For the first time ever the judges would not only be moving to the back of the theatre, they also wouldn’t be giving any feedback after the performance. Talk about game changer!

First up was Xae who gave a rousing rendition of β€œLive You’ll Never See Me Again” by Alicia Keys. However the good fortune didn’t last long as the next five performances after her failed to deliver on the high expectations of the judges. It’s not until youngest contestant Yanga arrived that the judges sat up once again and praised her performance of Emeli Sande.

The nerves however quickly crept back into the remaining contestants as Sibongiseni failed to overcome pre-show jitters and tanked her performance of Rihanna’s β€œKiss It Better. Yet it wasn’t all doom and gloom as the likes of Thato, and King B shook things up with their effortlessly spectacular performances.

All in all it was a true test of grit and tenacity for the contestants as they battled their inner selves in the hopes of securing their Top 16 spot.

Question is was it enough? All will be revealed this Sunday!
