The judges unearth gold egoli
Johannesburg wraps the Idols audition run with an impressive haul of golden tickets.
If there’s one thing you can trust Johannesburg to deliver on it’s entertainment!
This past Sunday the City of Gold served as the fourth and final stop for the Idols Season 14 auditions and there was no shortage of spectacular moments! Things kicked off with a bang as the stunning Keitu strutted into the audition room looking like a million bucks! The bombshell pretty much had the judges’ jaws dropping along with her fur coat but alas, the talent didn’t match her pizzazz.
And the wooden mics didn’t stop raining there as more and more contestants fell flat when the spotlight shone on them. It was almost starting to feel like the honorable Doctor Rebecca Malope had landed in the middle of a talent drought. Then the darling Dalene walked in.
The 20-year-old band lead blew everyone away with a marvelous performance of Amy Whinehouse’s Valerie which earned her three yeses and a golden ticket straight to Theatre Week. And not only did she bring smiles to the judges faces, she also seems to have opened the flood gates as the golden tickets came rushing!
One standout contestant in particular was the petite Thando. Depsite her small frame, the extremely shy 19 year old packed a punch that landed her three yeses too. Of course though, nothing good last forever and it wasn’t long before the wooden mic contenders came racing back to the forefront.
No one though caught everyone’s attention quite like Moses. His singing voice was none existent but his extra rich baritone almost shook the lights out their sockets. So Proverb being Proverb, he turned Mzansi’s very own Barry White into the not-so-official new voice over artist!
Fortunately, it wasn’t all doom and gloom as Johannesburg managed to squeeze a few more golden tickets out of the judges, bringing the total tally of golden ticket recipients in season 14 to 95.
So while we’ve been rather sad to say farewell to the audition stage, we’ve quickly found ourselves anxious to see who survives the dreaded theatre week.
The Idols Season 14 Theatre Week kicks off on Sunday 05 August at 17:30 on Mzansi Magic DStv Channel 161. Get exclusive updates as all the action unfolds by following us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
