When you’re the same city that gifted South Africa with season 13 winner, Paxton, you know the stakes are nothing short of astronomically high! Thankfully though, Cape Town brought their all and then some!

This past Sunday, Randall, Somizi, Unathi and guest judge DJ Cleo jetted off to the Mother City to witness what talent has blossomed in the past year since they unearthed the cities previous gem. Things however didn’t get off to the best of starts as the wooden mics seemed to by flying with one not so great performance after the other.

Then came Yanga, the 16 year old with a vision and a plan not only blew the judges away with her superb voice, she wowed them with her clear and articular plan for her blossoming queen. Her stellar performance seems to have paved the way for the golden tickets to start flowing as it wasn’t long before yet another young hopeful stepped up to the stage to try claim their rightful place in theatre week.

This time it came in the form of Thatho, a 23year old aspiring singer who travelled an incredible 14hours to get to his audition! The arduous journey however didn’t stop his star from shining though as he garnered three yeses thanks to an impassioned performance of “Turn Your Light’s Down Low” by Bob Marley. He was then quickly followed by the Bruno Mars loving Lincoln who was there to make his mom proud and he surely didn’t disappoint.

Good things clearly don’t last forever though as the fall-out-your-seat performances returned. This time it seems the contestants tried a different approach, either choosing to charm Unathi or dazzle Somizi with their fashion. Sadly, neither strategies worked.

Everything soon snapped back into place though when 20year old debt collector Dineo walked into determined to answer her musical calling! Her riveting rendition of “Weakness In Me” proved her a strong contender and now she’ll have to swap chasing cheques for chasing her dreams.

And although most of the day had flown by, Cape Town wasn’t yet done with the laughs as the judges got the most unexpected blast from the past in the form of former farting phenomenon, Tracey-Lee who returned to give it one last go!

The highlight of the night though was undoubtedly the bubbly and larger than life Rugene whose exuberant performance brought nothing but smiles and even tears of joy to Unathi. She was the perfect precursor to the final golden ticket of the day handed to South African National Defense Force Navy personnel Nokulunga who came with her entire troupe in tow to celebrate her tackling a new frontier.

Overall it was an incredible day for Cape Town as they city brought their A game and fielded some serious contenders to continue their reign as signing champions.
