The Top 16 Girls aimed for the stars at their first ever LIVES!
top 16 girls group

World class is perhaps the best way to describe this Sunday’s show as the Top 16 Girls sang their hearts out for your votes.

With the bar having been set by the gents the week earlier, the girls had a tough task ahead of them to wow the judges and Mzansi. Thankfully though, they were nothing short of amazing as they all thrilled with spectacular performances.

Things got off to a sizzling start as the ladies opened the show with a blazing hot medley of Beyonce’s smash hits 'Run The World' and 'Formation' that got everyone amped for an sensational night.

Idols alumni, Shekhinah and Mariechan were the guest performers for the night and they brought the house down as they blessed the crowd with a silky smooth rendition of their collaboration 'Different'. Shekhinah then caught us all off guard as she gifted Proverb and the Idols team with an honorary plaque from her debut album ‘Rose Gold’. The night was clearly off to a great start!

First up to perform for the girls was the petite Thando who packed a punch as she took on Jennifer Hudson’s ‘Giving Myself’.

She was quickly followed by Bongiwe who gave an impassioned performance of 'Beneath Your Beautiful'. The aspiring music writer tackled the usually challenging ballad with effortless ease much to the admiration of the judges.

Adorned in gold, Wattahmelon continued the solid stream of impeccable vocal talent as she blew everyone away with her version of ‘Lose To Win’ by Fantasia. You know you’re in it to win it when even Randall gives you a nod of approval.

Nosipho was a beautiful surprise for the evening as she shed her shy demeanor to give a performance as explosive as her voice, completely owning Sia’s ‘Alive’.

Doing it like she was born for the stage, Xae left Unathi singing her praises as she wrapped up SZA’s Broken Clocks in a beautiful bow of sultry scales and riveting riffs.

A fearless and determined Yanga took on the larger than life Adele and not only did she slay, she earned the first “wooo shem” of the night. A well deserved feat!

Ntokozo added a little local flavor to the evening as she tackled Zahara’s ‘Ndiza’ with a flawless presentation of the soulful single.

And last up for the night and the Top 16 live performances was Dalene who chose a song as bright as her personality. Despite Whitney Houston’s ‘It’s Not Right, But It’s Okay’ dropping when Dalene had barely been born, she took it, ran with it and made it her own!

It was ultimately one of the most memorable night’s of the season as the girls firmly stamped their position in the competition and maybe even left the gents just a tad bit nervous.
