All it took was 40 seconds and the spirit shaking scales of Donny Hathway’s ‘Song For You’ to set Mthokozisi’s path on a trajectory he probably couldn’t have imagined in his wildest dreams.

With a golden ticket on his mind and a song in his heart, the UCT student won over the judges with a rousing first audition that guaranteed him a place at Theatre Week. He also quickly became a fan favourite as he shared his tale of triumph over tribulation.

At Theatre Week he continued to shine as he was paired with Ndumi to deliver a duet battle of epic proportions that perfectly prepared him for a memorable solo performance of ‘Dominoes’ by Brian Temba. With a perfect streak of displays for the judges, a Top 16 spot was pretty much guaranteed and it didn’t take long for the judges to grant him what he had rightfully deserved, a chance to sing for your votes.

The start of something special

From then on Mthokozisi continued to live by his personal mantra, “Life is tough but I’m tougher”, as he buried himself in Mzansi’s hearts with some truly spectacular renditions of classic hits and timeless anthems.

Now although his time on Idols has come to an end, it goes without saying that the journey has only just begun for the young star and we know this won’t be the last South Africa sees of him.

Mthokozisi isn't gone forever though. You can still interact with him by following his official Facebook page here.

And as one last momento for the fans, here are some beautiful parting words from the cool crooner.
