Let's just say the performances weren't the only thing that had us gasping for breath

On Sunday night the Idols hit the stage backed by our dancers with vibrant visuals and effects punctuating every note! The atmosphere was electric right from the surprise opening and it's easy to see why Showstopper remains one of the most popular nights of the season. As has become the norm, the twitterverse was abuzz with all manner of reactions from tears to heart palpitations and we were here for it! We also think Sanay hit the nail on the head when she pointed out that one can not simply watch Idols without following along on Twitter so let's get into the night's best tweets!

Our then Top 8 kicked off the show with a stunning cover of '24 K Magic' by Bruno Mars complete with flying sparks, sharp suits, dancing and sparkles of gold everywhere! They recieved resounding applause before Proverb caught everyone off-guard by revealing that he'd be announcing the results imminently. The lights were dimmed, the masses were shook and Tee was announced as the 3rd finalist heading home this season.

With the results revealed it was time to feast our eyes and ears on what our Idols had been prepping all week. Faith performed P!nk's 'What About Us?' opting for a dark, post-apocolyptic theme which complimented her gritty vocals perfectly. Mthokozisi went for a completely different aesthetic however, turning the whole stage into a wedding reception before performing AKA's 'Caiphus Song'. He even did the signature, shoulder shimmy before Thembisa Mdoda stepped out on stage in a spectacular, white gown and joined everyone in doing the electric slide.ย

Christo and Lindo were up next and both their sets were futuristic and other-worldly. The former took on Omarion's 'Post To Be' with a troup of female dancers strutting and sashaying to a stunning laser show. As always, Christo didn't miss a single note or beat, something Unathi commended. Lindo donned a NASA jacket and was backed by dancing astronauts for his cover of One Direction's 'Drag Me Down'. He didn't shy away from busting a move either, much to the delight of everyone watching.

Phindy picked up the tempo even further giving us a sultry performance of 'Wild Thoughts'. She clearly took the que from Somizi who'd encouraged her to leave it all on stage and as such, we got hair flips, winding and vocals for Africa. Botlhale kept the momentum going, pushing himself outside of his comfort zone with a house track instead of the usual R&B or Soul affair. It turned out to be a great gamble too because he got to unwind and show off his signature dance which earned him a standing ovation!

Closing things off was Paxton who had the whole stage transformed into her very own bedroom for her rendition of Sia's 'Cheap Thrills'. A little ways into the track however she "hit the dancefloor" and nailed every note with same passion and ferocity Sia does. It was a perfect close to the show!

If you forgot to vote then we're afraid it's a little too late because lines closed last night. That said, we'd still love to know who impressed you most and won your support. Sound off on social media using #IdolsSA
