It all began with a dream!

It’s been four weeks since the premiere of Idols SA season 14 and just like that the ever eventful theatre week has arrived. The grueling series of group and solo performances that seperates the singers and the stars in the pursuit of locking down the final set of contestants who’ll sing for your votes live.

But before we dive deep into the aptly named Hell Week, we’re taking a quick recap of just how this journey of the giants kicked off.

Durban

Durban got the ball rolling with some truly standout performances. The youthful hopefuls stood out in particular with young singers like 17 year old Nosipho and 18 year old Xae effortlessly clinching their spots at Theatre Week.

The city also etched it’s name into the record books with an impressive 24 golden tickets to its name, a South Coast first!

Cape Town

Next up was the Mother City and with one Idols winner under their belt, the pressure was on to birth yet another sensation. Thankfully though the city didn’t disappoint as it offered up yet another teen star in 16 year old Yanga. There was also a wealth of silky voiced young men like the cross country travelling Thatho and the steel-willed Lincoln who wooed the judges with their sensual voices.

It’s safe to say Kaapstad is comfortably following in the golden footsteps of Paxton.

Pretoria

Golden tickets came raining down in the capital, but who would expect anything less? The city presented an eclectic mix of talent, tones and personas that included Wattahmelon, King B and Scar’tile.

Plus it wasn’t just about big voices and eye-catching names, Pitori also match the season high of 24 golden tickets to add yet another stone to their top city crown.

Johannesburg

It’s probably safe to say no other city carries as high expectations as Johannesburg. With consistently high contestant turnouts and fierce competition, the final city in the audition tour had big shoes to fill. But underestimate them at your own peril because Jozi not only stepped up to the plate, it knocked the ball out of the park with rousing performances by the likes of Dalene, Thando and Victor.

With the Telkom Pop Up auditions included, a total of 95 Golden Tickets were handed out by the judges to some truly gifted singers.

And while their grit and tenacity is something to be commended, the true test starts now as they head off to the Wild Coast Sun to see if they can battle themselves, the competition and the unforgiving judges.

Welcome to Hell Week!
