People call it a country within a country. It has its own language, culture and vibe. Welcome to Pretoria, the Jacaranda City fondly referred to by its people as Cap’ City, where the nightlife is lit and the dance culture unparalleled. That said, can fearless Pitoli majaivanes sing as boldly as they dance? If the Golden Ticket numbers are anything to go by, then the answer is a loud and resolute, yes!

The Idols SA Season 13 auditions saw the young and ambitious come out in droves to take a chance in front of the judges at The State Theatre. Idols Season 8 winner and award-winning musician Khaya Mthethwa made it to the other side of the table as a guest judge in tonight’s episode, and his experience as a contestant saw him empathise with the wide-eyed hopefuls, without being a pushover. “Idols is the only place you can come in as a dreamer and leave a superstar,” he declared.

Tonight’s episode was proof of just how much people dream of that superstardom. The episode could have been dubbed “another shot at fame” as quite a few returnees came back to try their luck with Lindo, Faith, Ginger and Thapelo making it yet again to Theatre Week.

As usual, Randall had some curt comments to throw about, including telling a contestant, “The level of originality is none existent,” ouch!  And while getting four nods is like cracking the code to the vault housing the crown jewels, the truly talented ones did it, booking themselves a safe spot in the first round of Theatre Week.

Tonight also introduced the Telkom Pop-Up Audition bus which travelled to Polokwane for this week’s episode. Contestants’ auditions were uploaded to the judges and four lucky candidates had their Golden Tickets hand delivered to their doors by none other than Proverb himself. Who knows, maybe Mzansi’s next Idol is hiding among these gems. After all, Polokwane is not known as The City of Stars for no reason. We’ll wait and see.

Idols SA airs on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161) every Sunday at 17:30
