Meikie had been waiting at Vanderbijlpark taxi rank for her friend for hours. Lonely and forlorn, she sat on a rock, and waited, and waited. Ompie, a taxi driver, made several trips, and each time he returned to the rank to collect anothe rload of passengers, noticed that Meikie had since been sitting there.
Taking the chance to play hero, he walked up to her and offered to buy her ice cream, perhaps to ease her frustration. Meikie agreed, and over ice cream at KCF, he asked where she had been meaning to go, and then offered to take her there, an offer she couldn't pass up, since she'd been stood up by her friend.
They exchanged numbers and spoke intermittently. Meikie admitted that initially, she wasn't interested in a serious relationship with Ompie, she would just call him up whenever she needed a ride somewhere. Ompie, on the other hand, was completely taken, and wanted a future with Meikie.
Years passed and they lost touch, only to be reunited in 2010. At that point, Meikie didn't want to play any more games, and a serious relationship between the two began.
