Set on the backdrop of the taxi industry, with two young lovers, torn apart by a century old feud between two powerful families. From a valley long divided by too little resources the bitter feud continues in Egoli, the city of gold as the Zungu’s seek to build their fortune. The promise of riches and old cycles of revenge tears them apart but one man’s quest for reconciliation & peace leads them all to understand that they can prosper together. Isibaya, depicts the everyday struggle for wealth and power between the Zungus and the Ndlovus. This struggle is reflected in the title – Isibaya; meaning (The Kraal , where a herd of cattle and goats are kept). Shadrack

Father of Lerato. Insightful, world-weary, speaker of truth. A warrior who has lost the will to fight. Yard manager at the Zungu’s and close friend and confidante to Mpiyakhe, he too has a vision for peace and reconciliation in the Valley. Undeniably attracted to MKabayi.

Sibusiso (S’bu) Ndlovu

Samson’s youngest son, is as determined and stubborn as his father. A natural leader, with integrity. S’bu is charming, articulate and smart. Being groomed to take over the taxi business from his dad, he is willing to make whatever sacrifice is needed. But when he falls in love with Thandeka his world is turned upside down.

Mandla Ndlovu

Brutal, jealous and corrupt younger brother of Samson. He lives and dies by the sword and believes that his brother is wrong to imagine that the peace negotiations will change anything.

Samson Ndlovu

Strong, fierce and calculating taxi owner from the West valley and principle voice in that taxi association. His smooth and seemingly reconciliatory manner, hides a man who is at the very top of a dangerous and corrupt business and there is nothing he will not do to stay there. But he is also a proud father. He believes in principles and family honour. He is a complex villain.

Lerato

Shadrack’s daughter. 16 year old, street smart and sassy. Dreams of a better life, glamour and love. Gives everyone a run for their money including her father who has sacrificed everything for her education. Fearless but wanting more from life.

Jackson

A charming, smart and smooth talking businessman. Snake in the grass, willing to do anything for personal profit.

Siphokasi Zungu

The oldest of Mpiyakhe’s wives, is a respected childless matriarch with an irreverent, slightly wicked, sense of humour and a secret smoking habit. Her astute but inexperienced business skills are put to the test when ‘the wives’ get a catering contract on the road construction project.

Jabulani (Jabu) Zungu

Mpiyakhe’s son and Zodwa’s brother. Dissolute, angry young-man, wastrel with a chip on his shoulder and wanna be musician. He is popular with girls, his charm and good looks get him out of trouble.

Thandeka Zungu

Mpiyakhe’s daughter. Well educated, modern city girl. She has been protected by her fathers position and money and is an innocent. She must face an unrequited love and fight for what she believes in. She is filled with a passion for science and discovering the universe, but knows nothing about those living in it.

Iris Zungu

Mercantile, calculating and manipulative ‘city wife’ of Mpiyakhe. Married for money, power and position. She is willing to do almost anything to retain and grow those things. Morally questionable and deeply flawed.

Mkabayi Zungu

Mpiyakhe’s sister. Pugnacious, abrasive, tough talking matriarch of the family in KwaZulu-Natal. Is forced into a more high-profile public and political involvement with the taxi business. Still mourns a lost love and struggles to show her softer side. She learns to lead and find time to listen to the people around her.

Mpiyakhe Zungu

High profile taxi boss. Savvy political player and leader. He has a ‘road to damascus’ moment when his daughter is nearly killed in a taxi shootout. He realizes violence is not a viable alternative and envisions a new peace. As a young man Mpiyakhe was a consummate stick fighter and very popular with women.

Isibaya Review: Baying for Ndoda's blood

It has been a big week on Isibaya, Thabang's funeral and the little coffin has had everybody reeling.

It has been a big week on Isibaya, Thabang's funeral and the little coffin has had everybody reeling.

Shadrack, S'khaleni, Pam and Sengwayo have all had to keep themselves in check.

S'khaleni, one of many wanting justice done!

To the shock of everyone, Ndoda was released on bail and is back on the streets and you can understand why everybody is up in arms; the injustice is staggering.

Behind the backdrop of all the mourning is Mgijimi reeking havoc with Sengwayo, it seems his powers are back in full force.

Everybody is dealing with Thabang's death in their own way but Lerato has been coping least as she takes her sadness out on Josie who only wants to ease her pain. But could this bring mother and daughter closer? Josie opens her heart to Lerato as she explains why she abandoned her all those years ago... but again, was this the right time to tell her?

The biggest surprise was left till the end of the week when we saw Pam risking all, when she put a gun in her hand and made her way to Ndoda, it's clear that the guilt is eating her up but what will it help if she kills him? Thabang is still gone.

Pam plays with fire

Tragedy will either bring a family together or tear them apart and it looks as if Thabang's passing is causing a divide between Shadrack and Josie, will they reconcile and use each other for support or is this the beginning of the end?

It's all heating up on Isibaya, there are way too many people wanting Ndoda dead and Josie is clearly taking strain as her family paints her as an outcast as they attempt to reconcile Thabang's death.

Now for some good news... Mzansi, Would you like to be an Isibaya VIP? Standard Bank AccessAccount holders listen up! You can take part in the Swipe and Win Competition if you swipe your AccessAccount debit card four times or more until 30 September 2014. Things have been heating up on Isibaya and we can’t wait for yet another week of action and drama.

Last week fans just could not get enough of all the drama Qondi’s hidden desires had caused. Fezile was a hurt man who seemed hell bent on harming anyone who stood in his way. Poor Mehlomamba and S’khaleni didn’t even see those punches coming.

Back in Bhebesini, Iris was at the center of more drama. After Blade saved her from Mbodla’s gun, she was kept as Bhekifa’s prisoner. But after some time in the sheets with the chief, she seemed to be off the hook. Question is, how long would this last?

Here is what to expect this week on Isibaya:

Monday, 18 August
Uniting To Be A Force

Josie organises a meeting at the Market Theater. Mandla consults with Bongani about an important matter. Will Fezile and S’khaleni bury the hatchet?

Tuesday, 19 August
Intensions Questioned

Friday, 22 August
Plans of Revenge

Pam is rushed to the hospital. Bhekifa offers his support to Iris. S’khaleni has cooked up a deadly plan.

Isibaya Preview: 11 - 15 August, 2014

This week, a cleansing is being prepared for Qondi and Mpiyakhe is stopped from looking for Fezile while the chief worries about what Iris is up to.

Last week saw Mbodla being shot by Blade just as he had a gun on Iris' throat. Mbodla's shenanigans infuriated the chief because he (Mbodla) had revealed a lot of his secrets to Iris. As if that was not enough, Qondi made a mess of an already sticky situation when she allowed Mgijimi into her bed.

Tempers flared when Fezile found Mpiyakhe in bed with Qondi the next morning. Though nothing had happened, as Qondi kept insisting, Fezile simply stormed out of the bedroom. The two were left confused and worried about Fezile's next move but if Qondi had it her way, she would have run after her man, but Mpiyakhe stopped her.

Let's take a look at what happens this week:

Monday, 11 August
Nowhere To Be Found

It seems Fezile is nowhere to be found. Pam reassures S’khaleni about his concerns. Zweli and Zanele make peace. Mkhithi reveals the truth to Mpiyakhe.

Thursday, 14 August
New Alliances

Friday, 15 August
In Fear

Qondi gets the courage to go talk to Fezile, but makes matters worse. The yard wonders about Fezile’s next move. S’khaleni fears for his life.
