It’s the City of Gold’s time to line up for possible Golden Tickets to Sun City. The final round of Idols Season 9 auditions is taking place in Sandton on the weekend following Season 8 winner Khaya Mthethwa’s multiple nominations in the 18th annual MTN South African Music Awards this week. Will this year’s Khaya be waiting in the queue when auditions kick off bright and early Saturday morning [23 March] at the Sandton Convention Centre?
Aspiring superstars who want the chance to become the next Idols winner have to be there on Saturday to register to audition and have to be available to return on Sunday and again on Wednesday, 27 March, or Thursday 28 March, if all goes well.
South African citizens between the ages of 16 and 30 (on the day of their audition) are eligible to enter Idols SA Season 9. Those younger than 18 have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian and all contestants will be asked to present their ID documents at the registration on Saturday. Musical instruments will once again be allowed in the audition room.
This will be the final round of auditions for Idols Season 9 and thus it is the final chance for the foreseeable future for anybody who has ever harboured secret Idols dreams. “This year’s turnout has been excellent so far in Cape Town and Soweto and especially in Durban earlier this month, where 21 Golden Tickets were issued,” says Idols spokesperson Lani Lombard. “Let’s hope Gauteng is a match for the challenge from the other provinces!”
